Sines (pronounced Cinch) strikes us as being fairly
affluent, but it is not a holiday town, being flanked by heavy petrochemical
industry. After a late start we ran along the promenade, along side the
immaculate beach, which is cleaned daily. The route meant going past some of
the industrial area, but, once past that, we were on a path out of town beside
fabulous coast rocks and empty beach. On the way back we diverted into town to
buy fish and vegetables from the indoor municipal market. The two ladies on the
fruit and veg stall were delightful, entering into the spirit of our attempts
at Portuguese, accompanied by pointing.
After lunch, back at the boat, we relaxed for a while
before giving Equinox a wash. She was covered in black dust from our stay in
Cascais. We can only speculate that this may have come from the forest fires
that we understand have occurred in this part of the world.
I have no idea what sort of fish we bought, but it was
delicious, simply cooked in just olive oil and lemon juice.
Route planning ended the day, ready for an early start
tomorrow.
