We had a day in port doing preparation and maintenance on the boat. We spend time cleaning inside and out and also visited the shops for various supplies we needed. We went for a run along the promenade, passing gorgeous little rocky bays and larger sandy beaches. There was a wooden walkway just inland from the shoreline and well away from the roads.  On our return journey we found the supermarket and bought supplies for lunch.  While there we booked a delivery time and said that we would return in the afternoon for a bigger shop. When we returned they said that there had been a problem for the driver, and could they deliver first thing the next morning. This we happily agreed to except that first thing turned out to be about 10:45.

The marina offered a laundry service, where they would turn around the laundry within the day.  We carefully sorted out the technical clothing which should not be tumble dried, from the rest, and put a note in one of the bags to say “don’t dry this lot”.  Unfortunately, we had been slightly misled about when the washing would be returned, and when we got back from out supermarket shopping the office was already closed.  We could see our bags of washing standing inside, but Tricia was very unhappy about the wet clothes sitting in a bag for the night.

We visited the chandlery and bought a replacement shackle for one that had been fitted for the mainsail halliard (rope that pulls up the mainsail).  This had been new this year, but was obviously not strong enough for the loads we were putting on it, and the pin going through it had bent to the point that it was unusable.  I spent half an hour cutting the old one off the line that it had been spliced to, and put on our new, stronger shackle.  We also managed to replace one of the empty gas bottles with a new full one, so we have enough gas to last for many weeks.

In the evening our next visitor was due to arrive, a friend from the sailing club.  As has been the norm lately, we started to get messages saying that the flight was delayed.  On this occasion it was about 90 minutes, partly because once they were sitting in the plane ready to go, another plane spilt jet fuel on the runway and the airport was shut for half an hour while it was cleaned up.  Anyway, Teresa eventually arrived and we were able to relax at the end of a productive day.
